fitting collars correctly
Open up the collar enough to slip over your hound's head. |
Tighten the collar by adjusting the slide buckle. |
Place two fingers under the collar, and lift up
the 'D' ring. There should be about 2 inches of fabric between the two 'loop' buckles when pulled taut. |
It is essential that martingale style collars are fitted correctly to ensure efficient use of the 'semi-choke' function which prevents your hound from backing out of the collar if he or she becomes over excited or spooked.
Once your martingale has been correctly fitted as shown above, because of the extra fabric in the martingale loop, there will be enough allowance to slip the collar off your hound's head without having to 'open up' the collar using the slide buckle. So, once fitted on your hound, this collar should never need to be adjusted again. This makes it the most convenient of the walking collars, and with the semi-choke function, it is the safest too!

Open up the collar as big as it will go to slip over your hound's head. |
Tighten the collar by adjusting the slide buckle... |
... until there is just enough room for 2 of your fingers to fit comfortably behind it. |
Classic style collars simply open up, slip over your hound's head and then tighten to fit. There is nothing more to them. They are suitable for use as walking collars for calm hounds and can also be used as house collars.
To remove the collar you will need to adjust the slide buckle to open the collar up to it's maximum diameter and then slip back over the head.
Classic style collars will need to be 'fitted' on every use. |
tag collars (or house collars)
Press firmly on the two 'buttons' on the side of the plastic buckle... |
... this then opens the collar. |
Place the collar round your hound's neck and tighten using the slide buckle... |
... until there is just enough room for 2 of your fingers to fit comfortably behind it. |
Once fitted as shown above, these tag collars (or house collars as they are sometimes called) are easily removed by opening the plastic buckle as shown in the first two photos.
These collars are not recommended to be used with a lead, they are intended to hold your hound's ID tags and be worn at all times and in conjunction with one of the two types of walking collars (martingale or classic style). |
